On the problem of determining the final version of the text: newspaper “Vedomosti” 1720–1727
The first printed newspaper “Vedomosti”, established by Peter the Great, has been a valuable source of history of the Russian language, as it reflects the language changes of the first third of the 18th century. However, though many researchers expressed interest in “Vedomosti”, the newspaper, originally published in 1720–1727, has not been reprinted or fully described yet. For the newspaper’s 300th anniversary, RSL and RNL published the full collection of scanned copies of “Vedomosti” 1703–1727 among which we discovered issues preserved in two or three copies. Such cases of determination of the final version of the text of a newspaper issue form particular problems. The article discusses the issues of “Vedomosti”, preserved in triplicates, to show the difficulties of determining the final version of the text.
