In Hill Mari, several indefinite pronoun
series are derived by attaching two different indefiniteness
markers — e.g., there is a series with a marker ta-, a series with
a marker gə̈n'ät, and a special series which has the following
structure: ta-STEM-gə̈n'at. This research deals with the semantics
of such double-marked indefinites in Hill Mari. We briefly overview
the system of indefiniteness markers in Hill Mari and propose an
analysis for two double-marked indefinite pronoun series
(ta-gə̈n'ät series and ta-än'ät series). We suppose that their
semantics is compositional; in this particular case, double-marked
forms are associated with the semantics of partitivity in
non-referential contexts.
