I investigate the use of tense-aspect
markers in counterfactual conditionals in the Kuban dialect of
Kabardian, focusing on the expression of perfective vs.
imperfec-tive aspectual viewpoints in combination with different
eventuality types. I show that while aspectual and actional
information plays an important role in determining the
morphological encoding in Kuban Kabardian conditionals, mostly
having to do with the choice of the Imperfect vs. Pluperfect
tenses, temporal reference remains largely underspecified.
