The article deals with Veneres
Cupidinesque in Catullus’ carm. 3. 1. The author analyzes and
classifies different interpretations of this phrase that are found
in scientific literature: philosophic allusion, commonplace of
Alexandrian poetry, generalizing plural, elliptic plural,
attraction by number, abstract meaning, prosodic reason. According
to the analysis of this material, the author concludes that plural
in Catul. 3. 1 is caused by metrics.
