On typology of non-compositionality

The paper discusses the notion of
compositionality and its role in modern linguistic theory. The
brief history of the term presented and the process of its
development and understanding in different approaches to the
language proposed. One of the topics is the role of
compositionality in different modules of language structure (first
of all in the lexicon and in the grammar) from the point of view of
different linguistic frameworks: Lexical Semantics, Theory of
Lexical Decomposition, Distributed Morphology, Construction Grammar
and other theories. One of the aims is to show that the The
Principle of Compositionality is actual in the lexicon as well as
in the grammar. Another important goal is to build the enumeration
of different species of non-compositionality. Each case of
non-compositionality exemplified with Russian, Turkic, Ossetic or
English data. Having exposed the basic types of compositionality
violation, the paper proposes the ways to avoid such violations.
Each example of compositionality is supplied with the schematic
analysis in generative terms that aims to fix non-compositionality
and provides a compositional structure.
