Irish possessive construction with cuid ‘part’
Bayda V. V. Irlandskaya posessivnaya
konstruktsiya s cuid ‘chast’. Acta Linguistica
Petropolitana. 865.
In Irish the noun cuid ‘part’ is often
used in the possessive pronoun construction where the possessum is
the referent of a mass or plural noun, e. g. mo chuid eolais ‘my
knowledge’, lit. ‘my part of knowledge’ and mo chuid leabhar ‘my
books’, lit. ‘my part of books’. The article argues that the
construction is formally a pseudopartitive construction with the
element cuid explicating the meaning of the amount of the
possessum.
