Temporal organization of narrative in Bashkir

The paper is focused on the Bashkir verb
forms from the perspective of their functioning in the narratives.
The study is based on the data of the corpus of natural texts and
on the experimental data. To analyze the functional organization of
narrative texts their decomposition into passages is made. By means
of this method the narrative’s structure is split into several
parts, either of which may be characterized by particular
grammatical devices. After applying the functional decomposition to
the Bashkir narratives the trends of particular forms’ use in the
passages of a certain type are revealed. Furthermore, the
connection between the main finite form and the genre of text is
noted. While summarizing the tendencies of the form usage, the
results of the two experiments are considered. On the whole, the
study resulted in the description of all verb forms of the examined
narratives through the lens of the discourse context of their
usage.
