Constructions with coordinative means menän and häm in the Bashkir language

The article deals with the Bashkir
constructions Х häm Y, Х menän Y, X Y menän. These constructions
are used to encode situations with two participants with the same
semantic roles in Bashkir. Grammatical and semantic properties of
the constructions are discussed. Coordinate construction X häm Y
may be used regardless of its syntactic position. However, in
nominative, accusative, genitive and dative encoding the addressee
Х menän Y is used. It was shown that the comitative construction X
Y menän was the source of the coordinate construction Х menän Y. To
reveal the distribution of these two constructions, the experiment
was conducted. It showed that X Y menän is used only if two
participants are semantically unequal.
