В статье представлены результаты корпусного исследования терминов, обозначающих стороны света на материале древнегреческого языка. Морфосинтаксическое оформление большинства статических контекстов допускает буквальную интерпретацию терминов как конкретных ориентиров, однако в выборке находятся некоторые исключения. В работе предлагается гипотеза, связывающая предпочтение такого маркирования статических контекстов со сторонами света с годологическим пространственным нарративом, характерным для античных культур (пространственные отношения описываются как путь, который нужно преодолеть наблюдателю).
